Assembly of Prayer started in 1993 when Joshua and Nirupa Sukhra responded to the call of God to lead their own church in Toronto. What started as a handful of people in a small apartment, flourished into a growing number. In order to accommodate the congregation, the ministry rented commercial units to hold services. They went from holding a few services a week, to operating multiple ministries for men, women, youth and children. Determined to take ministry outside of their four walls, Assembly of Prayer began expanding their reach into Guyana through a television ministry which is touching the lives of many across the nation.

Assembly of Prayer spent a number of years renting two units on Eddystone Avenue. To offset expenses the units were shared with other churches. Although this had become a comfortable place of worship, there was a yearning in Pastor Joshua’s heart for the ministry to be free of leasing. He wanted to fulfill the vision where Assembly of Prayer could take ownership of a building they could call their own. With the support of church members through prayer and finances, Assembly of Prayer was able to purchase their new home at 1331 Martin Grove Road in the Etobicoke area. What seemed to be an impossible move soon became a reality by the grace of God!
